January 2016
We are finishing up our earth science unit. In our last investigation, students used a model to observe the process of erosion and deposition. Science process skills such as drawing and labeling diagrams of investigations, following procedures, making observations, and drawing conclusions are also emphasized. Students practice content-specific language using Quizlet.

In our last math unit. Students were challenged to connect their understanding of area and perimeter with basic computer science skills. Students learned concepts of coding such as loops and algorithms and practiced these skills using Code Academy.

Oct 2-This week in math, we are using place value understanding to decompose smaller units up to three times using the standard subtraction algorithm. We are applying the algorithm to solve word problems using the bar method (tape diagram).
Additionally, we are working on steps for being successful when solving word problems. Students are required to go through a multi-step process-oriented list on their way to success: Plan, Model, Reason.

Oct 2-This week in science, we are continuing our study of rocks and minerals. Students will be using the scratch test and a logic table to draw conclusions about mineral hardness
